Grenadier du 85ème régiment d'infanterie de ligne

This work depicts a grenadier from the 85ème régiment d’infanterie de ligne, and how he and his equipment would have looked. My research was based on a few surviving contemporary illustrations of soldiers from the 85ème, as depicted in the “Otto manuscript”.

I’m very proud of this work! It originally started as a reworking of an older illustration I had created, but it became much, much bigger and more complicated. I was going for a 19th-century portrait look and I think I got the colours and tone just right! I put so much detail into this piece, most of which you wouldn’t even notice unless you study it more closely.
