Lieutenant of the Douanes Imperiales

This work depicts a Lieutenant of Napoleon’s Douanes Impériales.

I always try to improve on my previous work in every aspect. I applied (and learned) a lot of new techniques while making this work. For example, I created highly detailed and simplified areas, as well as light and dark areas to create a natural focus on the character. Of course there is always much more to learn and I’m excited to start work and apply my newly learned techniques to my next illustration.

The Douanes Imperiales are a fascinating subject of the Napoleonic wars and I highly recommend reading up on them!
