Danish viking warrior on the shores of England

Arriving on the misty shores of England after a long journey, the weary yet experienced warrior jumps from his longboat onto the beach. With promises of land and riches, these warriors are ready to claim the spoils of war!

A great deal of work went into re-mastering this older artwork from 2021. I really loved the artwork and wanted to keep it on par with my recent artworks.

I first started by completely revising my research to provide a more accurate and up-to-date rendition of the Danish warrior. I always strive to be as accurate as possible with my paintings and won’t hesitate to adjust a work later if necessary – the wonders of digital art!

I then started to add an enormous amount of detail to the artwork, starting with the figure, where I reworked the hauberk (chainmail), and the clothing, changing and adding some items on his belt etc. One of the details I like most is the tiny woollen strands I added to his cape, to make the material feel very rough and authentic.

I then started adding detail to the background. I completely reworked the longboat, added some more rocks and several details like seaweed, small sea creatures and shells. I also like the way the sea now interacts more realistically with the beach, tying the image together.
