12e régiment de chasseurs à cheval 1814 - 1815

This work depicts a cavalryman from the 12ème régiment of Napoleon’s chasseurs à cheval during the late Napoleonic wars, wearing the "kinski" style uniform. With this work I wanted to experiment with different, traditional-looking brushes, to make the work more resemble a traditional painting. To achieve this effect, I studied multiple traditional works, mainly impressionistic works for the background, while for the figure, I looked at 17th-18th century oil paintings. I still wanted to retain my own crisp, detail-focused style while also incorporating traditional-looking brushwork and I think I have achieved a good balance of the two.
